Laminar Medica sponsors Tring School’s electric car project
Tring based company Laminar Medica is sponsoring Tring School’s electric car project this year. The leading manufacturer of temperature controlled packaging has provided the school’s team of 10 drivers with new boiler suits and will sponsor its hand built electric car.
Tring School’s electric car project is part of Greenpower Electric Car Races for Schools, which provides schools with the components needed to build their own electric car, including a 24 volt electric motor and a set of four 12 volt lead/acid batteries. The cars are then designed and built within the schools with the help of teachers, co-opted outside engineers, parents and sponsoring companies. Teams from each of the schools then compete in a number of IMechE Greenpower run endurance and sprint events throughout the country, using well known motor racing circuits.
Mike Hickey, Sales and Marketing Manager at Laminar Medica, commented, “We’re delighted to be sponsoring Tring School’s racing team. At Laminar Medica, we understand the value of getting young people involved in technical projects and encouraging them to think about important social and environmental topics such as energy generation and consumption. After all, these young people are the engineers and innovators of tomorrow. Plus, as a local business, it’s great to give something back to the community. We wish the team the best of luck!”
Tring School’s electric car club is open to pupils aged 11 to 13 years, and the Laminar Medica sponsored team’s first race happened on 14th September at Thurleigh Airfield near Bedford in September. The regional heats, took place on Sunday 28th September at Dunsfold Park, London with the final at to be held at Goodwood on 19th October.
