Lean Manufacturing & ISO9001:2000
Laminar Medica’s manufacturing and production department at both sites, Tring, UK and Vodnany, Czech Republic operate in a lean manufacturing environment. The introduction of lean manufacturing allows Laminar to keep the cost out of the cold chain for their customers by removing waste and non value adding processes.

Some of the concepts introduced so far are:
- Reduction in average lead times
- Waste audits
- 5 S audit (including Double Blind Audits)
- Visual Management
A lean process needs a lean thinking team, and with this in mind all of Laminar’s manufacturing staff have been trained in the principles. Lean manufacturing, however, is all about continuous improvement and we are always searching for ways to reduce costs, improve quality and increase productivity for the benefit of our customers.
Total Defect Management is a lean principle and is an example of a current project between the manufacturing department and quality department at Laminar. The objective being, to identify and reduce re occurring problems in specific areas of the company. This is achieved by targeting issues in order of priority gained from data collection at “point of use”.
Quality Department
Laminar Medica’s Quality Department manages the ISO 9001 - 2000 and Health and Safety Systems at both the Tring and Vodnany (Czech Republic) manufacturing sites.
A few of the significant Quality and Health and Safety milestones are:
- Total Defect Management
- GMP training and awareness
- Environmental training and awareness
- IOSH and NEBOSH qualified Health and Safety representatives
- Continuous Improvement Teams across all areas of the business
- Intranet based Service Improvement Database
- Global Management System (GMS)
The intranet based Global Management System is due to be launched at the end of 2007. This will facilitate access to Laminar Medica’s Quality, Health & Safety Systems and documentation from both manufacturing sites.
Benchmarking, KPI ‘s and global document control are just some of the benefits of GMS.
